Principal-led engineering

Corrosion judgment grounded in field evidence.

Nolan Ferguson, PE combines corrosion and failure-analysis experience with a practical background in utilities, public works, roadway design and construction, manufacturing, civil design, and construction delivery.

NOLAN FERGUSON, PEPrincipal Engineer / Founder

Corrosion and materials expertise. Civil responsibility. Mechanical foundation.

Nolan is the founder and principal engineer of Calicore Engineering. He is a licensed Civil Professional Engineer in California (PE No. 98815) and Nevada (PE No. 034439), and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Irvine.

His corrosion work includes piping and material failure investigations, Wenner four-pin surveys, field and laboratory soil-resistivity methods, soil chemistry, coupon programs, ultrasonic-thickness and coating evaluation, and analytical methods including XRF, ion chromatography, and spectrophotometry.

Nolan’s utility and public-works experience includes water and wastewater capital projects, roadway design and construction, road and bridge rehabilitation, tank rehabilitation, public facilities, inspections, and construction-phase delivery. His manufacturing background adds hands-on experience with SolidWorks, equipment, production drawings, and capital improvements. That range shapes Calicore’s approach: define the actual question, preserve the evidence, and make the recommendation practical for the owner, reviewer, and contractor.

Engineering + laboratory testing

One practice, with a dedicated testing division.

Soil Tests Laboratory is Calicore Engineering’s specialty testing division. Thermal resistivity testing measures how soil, backfill, concrete, and grout resist heat flow. Laboratory programs can include specified moisture and density conditions and multi-point dry-out curves for cable and thermal designers.

Laboratory samples are accepted from across the United States after confirming the test scope and shipping requirements. In-situ thermal surveys and other specialty field programs are arranged by project scope and mobilization. Civil and site services focus on California and selected Nevada projects.

Calicore’s knowledge center is organized around the work Nolan performs and the questions owners, engineers, contractors, and investigators bring to the practice. Each guide identifies methods, limitations, practical application, update date, and primary references so readers can distinguish a useful measurement from an unsupported conclusion.
