Septic & OWTS Design

An onsite wastewater treatment system, or OWTS, is commonly called a septic system. Calicore evaluates the proposed use and site conditions, prepares the civil design, and supports local environmental-health review.

Service overview

What this service involves

Calicore provides conventional septic and onsite wastewater treatment system evaluation and design for residential and light-commercial projects where the proposed scope fits local requirements and site conditions.

Services may include feasibility review, percolation testing, soil profiles, layout alternatives, system sizing, plans, calculations, agency coordination, and responses to plan-check comments.

Step by step

How the process works

The exact scope is matched to the project, but a typical assignment follows these steps.

  1. 01

    Confirm the project and agency

We review the address or parcel, proposed use, bedroom count or design flow, available records, well information, and local OWTS requirements.

  2. 02

Plan the primary and reserve areas

The building, access, slopes, wells, setbacks, and future replacement area are considered before field testing is laid out.

  3. 03

    Complete the required field work

Percolation testing, soil-profile observations, or other accepted site information are collected for the proposed dispersal area.

  4. 04

    Design and submit the system

The tank and dispersal system are sized and shown on permit plans, with calculations, notes, and comment responses provided within the agreed scope.

Review criteria

What environmental health generally reviews

The reviewing agency considers the proposed wastewater demand together with site, soil, groundwater, setback, access, and long-term replacement constraints.

Requirements vary by city, county, special district, parcel, and project type. Calicore confirms the current requirements with the reviewing agency before finalizing the scope.

  • Rural property feasibility

Frequently asked

Septic & OWTS Design questions

Does septic design include choosing the leach-field location?+

Yes, final design includes a suitable system location. Before field testing, the owner’s proposed development and known site constraints are needed so test locations evaluate realistic options.

Can you handle the county submittal?+

Calicore can prepare the engineering scope and assist with submittal and comments. Fees, owner signatures, and any outside specialty work remain project-specific.
