Corrosion Control Recommendation Reports

A corrosion control recommendation report explains what soil, water, resistivity, or material test results mean for the materials on a specific project. It goes beyond a test table without presenting the recommendations as a complete design.

Service overview

What this service involves

A laboratory table is not the same as a corrosion evaluation. Carbon steel, galvanized steel, ductile iron, stainless steel, copper alloys, aluminum, concrete, and coatings respond differently to moisture, soluble salts, pH, aeration, electrical coupling, and operating conditions.

Calicore reviews the combined data and the intended construction materials, then explains what the results do and do not support. Recommendations may address additional investigation, material compatibility, drainage, isolation, coatings, monitoring, or coordination with a qualified cathodic protection designer. They are not a substitute for project-specific design documents.

Step by step

How the process works

The exact scope is matched to the project, but a typical assignment follows these steps.

  1. 01

    Collect the project information

We review the plans, specifications, material list, sample locations, and available soil, water, or resistivity test data.

  2. 02

    Check the data

Methods, units, sample condition, location, and representativeness are checked before the values are interpreted.

  3. 03

    Evaluate each material

The combined exposure is discussed for the actual metals, concrete, coatings, and backfill proposed or already in service.

  4. 04

    Prepare recommendations

The report identifies reasonable control considerations, uncertainty, data gaps, and any need for additional testing or specialist design.

Review criteria

What the design team or reviewer looks for

A recommendation report must explain how the test results affect the actual project materials; a laboratory table alone does not do that.

What you receive

Typical project deliverables

  • Test-data quality and representativeness review
  • Material-by-material exposure discussion
  • Corrosion risk factors and uncertainty
  • Project-specific control considerations and follow-up testing

Common project needs

When this service is useful

  • New buried infrastructure
  • Utility rehabilitation planning
  • Imported fill or backfill evaluation
  • Design teams needing interpretation beyond raw data

Frequently asked

Corrosion Control Recommendation Reports questions

Is soil resistivity enough for a recommendation report?+

Usually not by itself. Resistivity is important, but pH, chlorides, sulfates, moisture, redox conditions, sulfides, material type, geometry, and site exposure may change the engineering interpretation.

Will the report select a cathodic protection system?+

No. Calicore can identify when CP design should be considered and provide relevant site and test data, but the system must be designed by the appropriately qualified CP professional.

Should imported soil be tested?+

When imported material will contact or surround infrastructure, representative testing can help determine whether the new exposure differs materially from native soil. Sampling should reflect the actual source and placed material.
