Pavement Condition Assessments

A pavement condition assessment documents what is failing, where it is occurring, how severe it is, and what additional information is needed before selecting preservation or rehabilitation work.

Service overview

What this service involves

Calicore performs focused corridor and network-level pavement assessments for public agencies, utilities, campuses, private owners, and construction-related investigations. The record connects visible distress to drainage, utility cuts, traffic or loading, maintenance history, construction records, and surrounding site conditions.

The assessment can support pavement management, annual budgeting, rehabilitation design, post-construction review, or a documented comparison of pre-existing and new distress. It is not automatically a pavement structural design or a guarantee that every hidden cause has been identified.

Step by step

How the process works

The exact scope is matched to the project, but a typical assignment follows these steps.

  1. 01

    Establish roles and controls

We review the contract documents, schedule, participants, decision authority, reporting needs, and open risks at the start of the assignment.

  2. 02

    Track the work

Meetings, submittals, RFIs, field observations, quantities, changes, schedule issues, and owner decisions are documented through the agreed process.

  3. 03

    Resolve issues

Technical and contractual questions are routed to the responsible party early enough to limit avoidable cost and schedule effects.

  4. 04

    Close the project

We coordinate punch-list work, record documents, testing, outstanding changes, final payment support, and the owner’s closeout records.

Frequently asked

Pavement Condition Assessments questions

What does a pavement condition assessment look at?+

The scope may include cracking, rutting, patching, settlement, edge failure, drainage, utility cuts, surface condition, traffic or loading context, maintenance history, and construction records.

Is a condition assessment the same as a pavement design?+

No. It establishes condition and priorities. A project-level rehabilitation or new-pavement design may require additional subsurface, traffic, materials, drainage, and agency analysis.

Can the assessment support a construction claim?+

Yes. Calicore can document condition, locations, photographs, records, quantities, and observable contributing factors as technical engineering support. Legal opinions remain outside the engineering scope.
