Corrosion Engineering Services

Corrosion Engineering Studies

A corrosion engineering study combines records, site conditions, and selected tests to explain deterioration, compare material or repair options, or identify what must be learned before a design decision.

Service overview

What this service involves

A useful corrosion study begins with the asset and the decision at hand: material selection, failure cause, rehabilitation scope, exposure risk, monitoring, or additional testing. Calicore builds the investigation around that question instead of applying one generic corrosivity label to every material.

The scope may combine records review, site observations, soil and water sampling, resistivity measurements, coating assessment, coupon data, material characterization, and specialty laboratory testing. Findings separate measured facts from engineering interpretation and identify where the available evidence does not support a definitive conclusion.

Step by step

How the process works

The exact scope is matched to the project, but a typical assignment follows these steps.

  1. 01

    Define the decision

We identify the asset, the corrosion concern, and whether the study must support material selection, rehabilitation, monitoring, repair, or further testing.

  2. 02

    Review the history

Drawings, specifications, materials, operating data, failures, repairs, and prior test results are reviewed before field work is selected.

  3. 03

    Inspect and test

Site observations, field measurements, and samples are chosen to test the credible corrosion mechanisms rather than to produce unrelated data.

  4. 04

    Report what the evidence supports

The report explains the findings, alternative explanations, limitations, and the next useful action.

Review criteria

What an owner or reviewing agency needs from the study

The study should connect every conclusion to identified assets, locations, methods, materials, and exposure conditions.

What you receive

Frequently asked

Corrosion Engineering Studies questions

What is included in a corrosion engineering study?+

The scope is matched to the project question. It may include site assessment, records review, representative sampling, soil or water testing, electrical measurements, material evaluation, and a written interpretation with practical recommendations.

Does Calicore design cathodic protection systems?+

No. Calicore provides corrosion studies, field testing, investigations, and engineering interpretation, but currently excludes cathodic protection system design. Test data can be prepared for use by the project’s CP designer.

Can Calicore mobilize outside California?+

Yes. Corrosion investigations and appropriately scoped specialty field programs are available nationwide. Laboratory samples can also be shipped from anywhere in the United States.
